Southern California lakes are ideal for a family vacation. Here is a list of Southern California fishing lakes for camping, and a recreational vacation by a lake.
Almost all these scenic lakes in Southern California have great camping facilities with hook ups for RV’s, boat rentals and launching ramps for boating.
Some of the most popular lakes in Southern California are Big Bear Lake, Lake Arrowhead, and Lake Elsinore California.
However, don’t be afraid to try some lesser known lakes, as they are usually less crowded, and more easy to get a campground reservation at.
All these Southern California lakes are truly unique and located in some of the most scenic areas of Southern California.
Big Bear Lake California
Located about 30 miles northeast of San Bernardino in the eastern San Bernardino Mountains.

Camping, picnic areas, mountain biking, hiking, horseback riding. Fishing is permitted in season.
Swimming is only allowed in designated areas, including the Meadow Park Swim Beach.
Boat rentals and scenic boat tours are available. I really recommend you take on of those boat tours.

Located 37 miles north of Riverside, via I-215 north to Hwy 330, then north to Hwy 18 west.

Access to the lake and its beaches is limited to the Village area.
You can swim, sunbathe, waterski, or take a 45 minute boat cruise on the Arrowhead Queen, operated daily. It’s located at the waterfront marina in Lake arrowhead Village.
This is great area for a Southern California lake vaction. We have had countless weekend getaways to Lake Arrowhead, and always had a great time.

Castiac Lake California:
A 8,000 acre recreational lake about 5 miles east of Castiac on Ridge Route Road.
There are campgrounds, picnic areas, boating, boat ramp, boat rental, fishing, swimming, pets on leash, bicycle trails, visitor center, food service.

Lake Elsinore: It’s a 2,954 acre lake, located 1 mile west of Elsinore on California SR 74. We used to come here with our speed boat when aour kids where pre-teens.
Great for boating and waterskiing, windsurfing, camping picnicking.
There are boat ramps, boat rental, fishing, swimming, pets are allowed on leashes, and food service.

An 8,000 acre lake located 4 miles north east of the community of Perris on the Ramona Expressway in San Diego County.
Recreational activities include rock climbing, water skiing, horse rental, camping, picnic areas, hiking trails, boating, boat ramp, boat rental, fishing, swimming, pets on leashes allowed, bicycle trails, nature programs, visitors center, and food service.
Millerton Lake California
Located 20 miles north east of Fresno via Hwy 41 and Hwy 145.
This California state recreation lake area has 40 miles of shore land.
You can enjoy swimming, fishing and boating.
In addition there is hiking trails, camping, boat camping, wild life viewing, bike trails, guided tours, horseback trails, windsurfing, nature trails, restrooms, RV hookups, RV dump station, boat rental, shawers, boat ramps, picnic areas, historical site.
Since it’s one of the more popular Southern California lakes, I recommend that you make reservations, if you want to camp here.
Located 12 miles north of Frazer Park off I-5 in north Los Angeles County California.
There are camping facilities, but no hook ups for RV’s Picnic areas, boating, boat ramp, and 5 unique picnic sites that are accessable only by boat.
The Emigrant Landing is where you launch your boat.
The large parking lot will accomodate picnickers, fishermen and boaters.
There can only be so many boats and jet skis, on the lake at one time.
On busy summer weekends, the lake fills up to capacity quickly, so come very early. For additional information call (661)248-6725).
Located 11 miles south east of Mecca via SR 111, it’s a 17,900 lake, an one of the World’s largest inland saltwater lakes.
The surrounding desert terrain is hot and dry during summer, when temperatures regularly exceed 100F.
It’s best to visit between October and May, when temperatures are in the 70′s and 80′s Fahrenheit.
You can waterski or enjoy the nature trails.

Silverwood Lake: A 2,200 acre lake east of Cajon Junction on SR 138 in San Bernadino County Southern California.
Boat reservations are recommended, because during summer weekends the entire block of reservations are booked. This is common at most Southern California lakes. Call (760)389-2281.
There is a marina with boat ramps, boat rentals and a store.
The park has picnic areas, including 3 that can only be reached by boat.

It’s a 6,600 acre recreational lake located 15 miles east of Solvang on SR 154.
You’ll find miniature golf, guided lake cruises, swimming pools.
Boats must be 10 feet or longer and registred. No body contact is permitted with the water in the lake. No swimming! It’s a local water supply.

A 6,000 acre lake area, located 5 miles south west of Ojai California, off SR 150.
One of the more popular Southern California lakes, there is something for everyone here.
Casitas has over 400 campsites, picnic areas, fishing and boating, biking and hiking trails.
It’s a great lake for families, playgrounds for children, and special events throughout the season.
750 acres of fishing and camping fun for the whole family in Orange County California.
It’s a quiet, scenic fishing lake, stocked with bass, trout and other fish, near Silverado in the Cleveland National Forest.
Located 7.5 miles east of SR 55 via Chapman Ave and Santiago Canyon Road.
You don’t need a fishing licence to fish here! Just bring you fishing pole.
Camping, boat launch ramps, bait and tackle store, cafe, picnic areas with BBQ’s.

Mission Bay San Diego:
The largest man made lake park in the USA with over 4,235 acres consisting of 54% water.
It’s a great recreational park for camping, fishing and water sports, and it’s located next to Sea World
This also where the Mission Bay RV Resort is located, a fabulous low cost vacation paradise for RV’ers
